Recognise Bullying at Work

"Good morning" I said with a spring in my walk and a smile that went from ear to ear. Every morning was the same, NO RESPONSE. The smile started to fade, the positive spring in my step started to turn into a weight that could not be carried. It is amazing how important the first contact in the morning is and of course contact throughout working life is. Bullying at work or in life sometimes can't be outwardly obvious. Company bosses who do not see or even do not do anything about it are not worthy to be employers. Often bullying at work might seem very trivial, however, over time the small things can seem so big to the receiver that they end up..... well the list is endless.......

  • Depression
  • Lack of Motivation
  • Work Output Down
  • Suicide
  • Less communicative
  • Not getting involved any more
  • The list can go on as it is different for everybody
A company should be there for the employees first and then the customer. We spend more time at work than with our family and therefore it needs to be enjoyable, fun and of course productive.

I deliver a lot of employability courses and this is a subject I believe is very important.

What type of Boss are you?

Always trust staff to do their best and allow them to have good ideas. As a manager you just cannot be master of all. The best bosses use the skills of their staff. Don't spend your working life not trusting staff and just as bad not trusting customers. It also does not send positive messages to all staff if you are known as the boss that rewards long and loyal service by removing them. Sometimes staff need your support not the sack.

Keeping Control

There are some really good managers who can let go without losing control. There are also some who just can't let go. Try trusting your staff to do the job and do not pretend you are master of all.
